SCRIPTURALLY... THE TRUTH
TITHING
[Under the Law, tithes were to be paid — under the Grace of God, it pleases the Lord that his children give offerings of tithes. Read Gen.14:20; Mal.3:8-11. Read also John 8:39; Luke 11:42; Heb.7:4-10.]
Would it be wrong to use tithes on Church Building Fund? Well, that's a touchy little thing for the Church. Now, correctly, tithes are to go to the minister. That's right.
In the Bible, they had a box that they set at the door (in the Old Testament) of the building. This box was the fund where the people put in there for repairing — they kept up the buildings and things like that. All repairs on the building were taken care of out of that fund. But all their tithings went to the Priest, their pastor. Tithings are to go for nothing else.
I know of people who take their tithes and give them to widow women, that's wrong. If you've got anything to give to the widow woman, give her, but don't give her God's money. That's not yours in the first place, that's God's.
And Levi the Priest (Pastor)…lived by the tenth. The Tenth was to be a tithing that was brought into the storehouse with a promise of God to bless it; and He said “If you don't believe Me, come and prove me and see if I won't do it.” That's right.
The tithings go into the Church for the Pastor, and so forth like that, to live on. Then the Building Fund, and things like that, is a separate fund altogether.
[Questions & Answers Oct., 61]When God was setting things in order He said , “All you Levites, I've called you out and made you Priests, and all your brethren, the other eleven tribes will pay you by tithings. When you (eleven) get ten bushels of apples, pour one bushel to the Levites. When you run your sheep through, pick up the tenth one. I don't care if it's a little one, or a big one, fat one or poor one, that belongs to the Levites. When you (Levites) get all this, then you tithe to the Lord”.
[What the Holy Ghost Is]Over in the Book of Hebrews, I believe about the 7th chapter, Paul was speaking on a great event that took place with Abraham, that he paid tithes to Melchisedec when He was returning from the slaughter of the kings. Now, Paul said that Levi was in the loins of Abraham when he met Melchisedec coming from the slaughter of the kings and then he reckoned that to Levi paying tithes also when he was in the loins of Abraham, his great great grandfather.
[Things That Are To Be]This is the great chapter (Hebrews 7) of the teaching on Tithing to the Church. It's a great subject. Wish we could stay on it for weeks and weeks on that one thing; how Abraham paid tithes to Melchisedec and was it essential? Why should He ask Abraham to pay tithes? You see what a strict thing it is to pay tithes? Tithing's right. Every Christian is duty bound to pay tithes.
[Hebrews Chapter 7]Every Christian is obligated to pay tithes because it is a command of the Lord — Tithing is essential to the Christian experience.
[God Misunderstood]Should a person pay tithes to an individual?
It depends on who the Individual is. When you pay tithes, really you owe your tithings to where you get your food. “Bring ye all tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house (spiritual store house of spiritual food)” saith the Lord. That's right? “And prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of Heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Mal.3:10).
I challenge any man or woman that's not a Tithe payer to accept that. Yes, sir! I believe in paying tithes. It's one of God's blessings that's proven to be a blessing. You might say, “That's of the Old Testament.” It is of the New Testament, too. Yes sir!
[Questions & Answers Book 2]Everyone ought to have a Church home. You ought to have a place where you worship. Don't just float about from pillar to post, but have somewhere you go to (Church) and call it your Church. You should have somewhere to pay your Tithes and help support the cause.
[The Spirit Speaks Through The Prophet]It shows that you have separated yourself to be a Christian, to act like one, to live like one, to obey every commandment.
