Revelation, Truth and Love
“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” – Matthew 16:13-18Our text contains a record of people's own understanding (or misunderstanding, rather) of who Jesus was. None of them was right because the truth was not revealed to them. Of the twelve disciples, only one was able to give a confession of the true Person of Christ. But we know that it was not Peter's own understanding which enabled him to confess the Truth. It was revealed to him by God, the Father in Heaven.
REVELATION
What is REVELATION?
Revelation is the revealing or unveiling of TRUTH which leads to the understanding of that TRUTH. No man, in his natural make-up, can have, neither can he give, revelation. Only God can give revelation. All true revelations from God must be ACCORDING to His WORD. ANY REVELATION OUTSIDE OF THE WORD IS FALSE REVELATION. God will never add to, or subtract from, His Word. He is the FULL WORD, the COMPLETE WORD. And as long as God is dealing with mankind, the Sacred Scriptures are the Complete and Absolute Word.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God…” (2Tim.3:16). The Scriptures were written by Holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. None of the Truth was their own revelation; they were all God's Revelation of His Truth. Furthermore, all in-breathed scripture given to us “is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (2Tim.3:16-17).
Today, people are following the words of preachers without a revelation of the Truth. Many believers are following the teachings of Brother William M. Branham, the prophet-messenger of our days, without a proper understanding of the Sacred Scriptures. They have been deceived to admit they are not believers if they do not confess every single word that William Branham had spoken to be absolute, regardless whether they understand what he was saying. I have often heard believers say, “I believe everything he said. I may not understand them, but I believe them anyway.” Such are foolish people, confessing what they do not know and claiming what they do not have. They are deceiving themselves with their own lips (cf. Jer.37:9; Pro.24:28). [A word to the wise: consider how the other disciples remained silent at Peter's confession. Not one of them dare foolishly utter, “I believe what Peter said. I may not understand it, but I believe it anyway.” He who confesses what he does not truly possesses is a liar. He is like the Pharisees who claimed Abraham, Moses and all the prophets, but they did not possess the revelation of what those men of God spoke of.]
“Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom.10:17). And “through faith we understand” (Heb.11:3) by the Word. Yet, if the anointing of the Spirit is not there to reveal, then there is no true revelation. A true revelation must be received. To reject it is to reject Christ Himself for He is the Word.
Regarding Peter's confession, Jesus said, “Flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven” (Matt. 16:17). And in Luke 10:21, He said, “I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: Even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.” Therefore, Truth can only be revealed by the Almighty God. Without that revelation of God, no matter how sincere your confession is, your faith is in vain; or, you may just be deceiving yourself.
CONSISTENCY
When a person has the true Biblical Revelation there is consistency in his life, both in his understanding of doctrines and in his actions borne by his character. Failure to understand even a little portion of the Word can easily lead to further misconception of other portions of the Word. Let's consider a few examples regarding the understanding of some people:
“Every word in the Bible is the word of God.” This is a false revelation. It is not true that every word in the Bible is the word of God. We find the Serpent's and Cain's words recorded in the Bible; so are Korah's, Saul's, the Pharisees' and the Sadducees'. Even the Devil's words are also recorded there.
The Bible is actually the GOD-INSPIRED WORD. It is a record inspired of God to enable us to look backward to the historical past and forward to the prophetic future. It is “given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2Tim.3:16). It is complete in every way for our daily needs in our relationship with God, and for anyone who desires to walk in the Way, the Truth and the Life which is in Christ Jesus. You cannot add to, or subtract from, the complete script from Genesis to Revelation. Amen. (Therefore, all Endtime Message believers must watch what they do with the words of William Branham.)
The Oneness of the Godhead is rejected by the Trinitarians as a false doctrine. Yet, consistency of the truth can be seen from The Book of Genesis to The Book of Revelation. We see only a great Personality of the Almighty Eternal Spirit Who became the Father of humanity and of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. And the Lord Jesus Christ was none other than the WORD of the Alnighty Spirit manifested in human flesh. He is the revelation of the One True God (1Tim.3:16). The Almighty Holy Spirit was the Father of Jesus (Lk.1:35; Matt.1:18,20). The 'Jesus Only' oneness denomination also fails to see this.
As opposed to the 'Jesus Only' sect, the Roman Catholics have added one more person to the Trinity of their Godhead — Mary as the Mother of God (or possibly Gods?) which added up to a total of four Gods. Maybe the Trinitarians and the Roman Catholics would soon quote Revelation 1:5-6 and come up with a further revelation that there is another God, that is God's Father. (Crazy, but true: the Scriptures, wrongly divided, give you five Gods — God the Grandfather, God the Father, God the Mother, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.)
Though there is nothing in the Scriptures to support the case for a woman preacher, yet today there are many women claiming that God has called them to preach and teach His Word. How could God break His Own Word when He said that women must remain silent in the churches, not permitted to speak but commanded to be under obedience? (1Cor.14:34). They are to learn in silence in ALL SUBJECTION, not to teach nor to USURP AUTHORITY over the man, but to be in silence (1Tim.2:11-12). God forbids the woman to teach His Word because of what happened in the Garden of Eden. The Woman (Eve) was deceived by the Serpent (1Tim.2:13-14; cf. Gen.3).
The various prophetesses in the Bible are usually cited to support the case for a woman preacher. A prophetess is not a preacher but a prophesier. She does not handle (teach) God's Word but merely brings forth prophecies under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Any sincere and honest student of the Word of God will agree that only the man is called and ordained of God to preach and teach (to handle) His Word. The 5-Fold Ministry in Ephesians 4:11 is given to men only. But the Gift of Prophecy, or any of the nine Spiritual Gifts of 1 Corinthians 12, may be given to women in the church for the edification of the church. All these nine Gifts are works of the Spirit and are given to individuals as He will (1Cor.12:11).
ATTITUDE
There is absolute truth in the statement that when a person believes right, he will live right. The Bible not only teaches doctrines but also shows the pathway to a Godly life. What good does it do to a believer if he knows all the true doctrines but is not living a Christ-like life? Would it do him any good if he continues to lie, to cheat and to hate others? What about a believing woman who prefers to cut her hair, wear clothes unbecoming of a Christian lady or wear high-heeled shoes and mince her feet like the women of the world? Such are the 'believers' who talk about the Bible when their lives are diametrically opposed to the teachings of Christ. Given a true revelation of the Word, a believer will have a proper understanding of doctrines and live a Christ-like life.
On the other hand, there are some who would rather have the right spirit than the right doctrines. These are the people who simply disregard doctrines whether right or wrong. How can one have the right spirit without the right doctrines since the Holy Spirit always leads His children back to His Word and to the Truth?
The majority of people all over the world desire democracy. It was the same desire which prompted the children of Israel to replace God with Saul as their first king to rule over them. Like all other nations around them, they were caught up in the spirit of their time. As a result they found themselves in various dire situations where conditions of unrest and rebellion prevailed. Many of their kings were spiritually backslidden, and very wicked.
Proverbs 21:16 says that “the man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead”. Yes, indeed! When man rejects God's way, God's choice and God's rule (Theocracy), he would invariably wander out of Truth into the sphere of unrest and rebellion. Some would begin to form their own opinion of what constitutes a true church and what truth is. Some would even set up unwritten creeds and dogmas to replace the Word of God. There being no consistency in their so-called truth, democracy makes demon crazy! The Devil just loves it. As such, these people shall certainly remain in the congregation of the dead! Unfortunately, many Endtime Message believers are caught in such situations. Although they know the Truth, yet they would reject the choice of God (and His working through the 5-Fold Ministry) to go their own ways.
IT IS WRITTEN!…
“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” – Matthew 4:1-11You will notice from this passage of the Scriptures that the devil tempted Jesus Christ three times. In his first attempt he used psychology. At that moment of trial, Jesus was experiencing hunger after the forty-day fast. Satan tried to provoke Him into demonstrating His powers as the Son of God. He tempted Jesus to succumb to the flesh and challenged Him to change the stones into bread to satisfy His physical desire.
When his challenge was resisted, Satan came to our Lord the second time with more than just psychology. He came to Him with the words of God! Here is the smartness and the subtlety of the devil. He noticed that he was answered by the WRITTEN WORD OF GOD in his first attempt. Jesus said, “It is written.” So on his next approach he coupled psychology with the written words of God.
He said, “If thou be the Son of God” (see, he's using psychology) “cast thyself down: for it is written,…” (see how he used the written words of God). Then he quoted Psalm 91:11. But notice, Psalm 91:11 was taken out of its proper context. The Psalmist was praising God for being a refuge and a fortress unto those who trusted Him and that He would deliver them in times of trouble. No one should tempt God to prove Himself. That's the reason Jesus answered the devil, “It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
Then, in desperation and frustration, the devil took Jesus into a high mountain and showed Him all his possession — the kingdoms of the world and all its glory, and said, “All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” Notice, he no longer used psychology or the written word. He used his possession, his pride! Yet again Jesus used the WRITTEN WORD to rebuke the devil who finally left in defeat.
The RELIGIOUS WORLD has been using the same methods and tactics of the devil. They would use psychology to suppress the people's mind. They would use the Word of God by taking IT out of context to suit their own purposes. When these fail, they would then show their POSSESSION — religious greatness, education, wealth, achievement, etc. Their boasting is never in the Lord, but always bragging about themselves. Yes, their PRIDE shows where their heart really is: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt.6:21).
Now, even some of the believers in the Endtime Message are using such modus operandi. Ministers (especially) would try to (psychologically) sway the mind of the believers with their revelation. Then they would come up with the words of the prophet William Branham. More often than not, statements (used by Brother Branham in his sermons) are quoted out of context by these people to prove their revelation. Worse still, the Inspired Written Word of God is usually misapplied.
And when they fail to convince you of their revelation they would usually get worked up like Satan did. They would tell you how many times or how long they had been with the prophet while he was alive; how many sermons they had read or heard; how much they knew of the message; how God spoke to them; and about this, that, and everything to show you how great they are, and how smart they are. Yes, they are lifting up the big 'I' so that little 'u' will look up to them. To some extent, you must see eye to eye with them, or you are not a believer. The spirit behind all these is trying to bring the children of God under nicolaity. O brother, watch it! Pride comes before a fall!
Oh, how often have I heard believers and ministers quoting Brother Branham word for word to prove their revelations! How often have I noticed statements being quoted out of context to back up their use of certain Scriptures instead of checking the Scriptures to verify whether those revelations/teachings were true! (Read Acts 17:11.)
…OR IT IS SPOKEN!?
What did Jesus do each time the devil came to tempt and to challenge Him? Did He not use the WRITTEN WORD, saying “It is written”? Today, we find many ministers in the message of this hour refusing to acknowledge the INSPIRED WRITTEN WORD. Instead of believing the Sacred Written Word of God and saying “It is written” they would refer to 'The Spoken Word' books and sermon-tapes of Brother Branham and say “It is spoken”, “It is spoken”, “It is spoken”, or “The tapes say this”, “The tapes say that”, “The tapes say this and that”.
Don't they know that they are being deceived by the same denominational spirits which bound those organized churches to a creed? The same spirits are binding them to a 'books and tapes' creed. To repeat what the prophet said regardless of the Sacred Written Scriptures of God amounts to spitting God in His face.
Our Lord Jesus Himself considered the Old Testament Scriptures the ABSOLUTE in His times. He used those Written Words to expound the doctrines in the Scriptures. Read Luke 24:27, John 5:39. God has always safeguarded those Scriptures from being tampered with by warning against any addition to or subtraction from His Word. Read Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32, and Proverbs 30:6. Subsequently, when the New Testament came under Christ, twenty-seven new books were being WRITTEN. Those books, together with the thirty-nine Old Testament books, were sealed by the Holy Spirit as canonical with the same warning given in the Old Testament books. Read Revelation 22:18-19.
The New Testament is the last testament of our Lord Jesus Christ when He sealed it with his Blood (Mk.14:24). There is no other testament after this. He had some of His apostles to write down, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, all that His Church would need to know. God had sealed the sixty-six books into one whole volume. If any man takes away or adds to this volume of God's WRITTEN WORD, he is taking away or adding to God's Word and thus will have to face His judgment. This is the fate of an American preacher who has been propagating a 'Third Testament'. Common sense tells us that if another testament is given, it would supercede the New Testament (New Covenant in Christ's Blood), making it an old testament. It would violate and denigrate the New Covenant of Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and make the 'Third Testament' the New Testament and superior.
Today, many ministers in the Endtime Message movement are adding to God's Word by putting the books and tapes of William Branham side by side with the BIBLE, just like what the Mormons have done with their Mormon books. You ministers and believers who are doing this are no better off than the Mormons. You claim you believe the prophet, yet you fail to understand even the simple truth he declared when he said, “Back to THE WORD! Back to THE ORIGINAL! Back to THE ABSOLUTE!”
The prophet never took us to his words; he always directed us to the Written Word of God. His Spoken Word ministry has proved THE WRITTEN WORD to be THE ABSOLUTE of God, and nothing else.
Any revelation, no matter how credible or beautiful it may seem, that is not backed up by the WRITTEN WORD of God is not a revelation from the Lord. God cannot contradict His Word, since the Word proceeded from Him. Every word proceeded from His mouth before they were ever written. The Logos (Spoken Word) of God is the Original Seed. Therefore, the revelation of the Spoken Word cannot contradict the Written Word. If God contradicts His Own Word, then He is going against Himself.
TRUTH
Paul, in Ephesians 6:10-20, called the saints to put on the WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD, which is the WORD and SPIRIT of God. So, we are not just talking about REVELATION of DOCTRINES only but also the REVELATION of the SPIRIT to produce a Christ-like Life. If a believer is doctrinally sound in the Word he would definitely be upright in his Christian walk. The Divine Truth of God would produce the Divine Love of God in his life. Thus, a true Scriptural understanding will consistently produce a truly Christ-like life. It is not only believing the Truth but also the need to be living the Truth.
Let me reiterate: where is TRUTH found? If you are a believer of the Word you would not hesitate to say what Jesus said, “Search THE SCRIPTURES…” If you are inclined to say “Search 'The Spoken Word' books and tapes”, then listen to what our Lord Jesus said to the Sadducees, “Ye do greatly err because ye know not the Scriptures.” If you know the Scriptures you would know where and what Truth is.
Have you ever asked yourself this question: “If the prophet brought us a message of Truth, why are there all these various differences, errors and confusions?”
To answer this question, let me relate to you an incident that took place many years ago in the 1980s. At the invitation of a local church, two ministers came from the U.S.A. and held a few days of public meetings here in Singapore. I heard about one of them while I was with some believers in the United States. So I attended the meetings twice. On the second night, I decided to get to know him after the meeting ended. He was resting, sitting on the steps outside the auditorium, waiting for transportation. With my brother, I went up to him and greeted him. Our brief conversation was as follows:
“Hello, Brother A_____, I am Brother Gan.”
“Oh, are you with this fellowship?” (He meant the church which had invited him to conduct the meetings.)
“No sir,” I said. “I have my own fellowship, and there are also others.” (I told him that just to let him know there were a few other groups in Singapore besides that particular fellowship.) I continued, “I've been to the States and I've heard about you.”
“You've been to the States? And where have you been?” he asked.
“Jeffersonville, Indiana. I attended Brother Raymond Jackson's Faith Assembly Church Convention.”
“You've been there?” He began to raise his voice. “Do you know what that man's done? Do you know what he teaches?”
I said, “What, sir?” as if there was something that I have not already known.
He said, “That man, Jackson, teaches things contrary to the prophet. He's confused over the 'Seventy Weeks of Daniel'. He teaches so much on the seven years when the prophet taught three and a half. He has his teaching on 'Marriage and Divorce' do you know? Do you know what he teaches about the 'Seven Thunders'? Do you know him and some other ministers…”
I let him rattled off his machine gun. He also started to name other ministers. Experience has taught me that once the gun starts rattling off it's hard to put on its safety catch. And I was thinking in my heart: I came to get to know him, not to hear him 'rattle on' about people. But this minister could not bear to hear the name of Raymond 'Junie' Jackson or Faith Assembly Church that he had to 'riddle' him good and proper in front of me, my brother and a few believers who were standing around. I have often wondered how many believers around the world have heard him and his kind shoot down Raymond Jackson and those who associate or fellowship with him. I have heard from quite a few, and many of the things they said about him are lies. One of such lies is that Jackson had called himself THE Apostle, or THE Messenger for the hour. I have known the man well enough to know that he would not make such a claim. (He personally told me and another brother that he had not make such a claim. I took his words for it, and if that was a lie, then I have met and known a liar.) But, he may have hinted towards that, and he may not have condemned the spirit which pushes that idea. However, those who speak freely and openly against another minister are either jealous of his ministry or that they want people to listen to them and to follow their teachings and ministry.
Now, some of you may say, “Brother Gan, you are defending him because you associate with him.”
Let me say this: I cannot sit on the fence and watch. And I am not ashamed to be identified with Brother Branham, Brother Jackson or any minister or brother who stands on the WORD. I will defend or take the side of any man of God who takes the side of Christ, the Word of God. Would you stand idly by when you hear lies being told about Brother Branham? You would definitely not. The same goes for me. I would also speak what I know and believe to be true about God's Holy Word, His Messenger, William Branham, and all the true servants of God.
MESSAGE…WHAT?
When this minister had finished all that he had to say, he concluded (and this is something that I want you to notice carefully): “I believe in the Message PERIOD… These others believe in the Message PLUS!”
Then I departed and pondered over what he said. It amused me — Message PERIOD, Message PLUS. There's got to be one other group of the MESS AGE believers!
Yes, indeed! It is the Message MINUS! And God was showing me in this conversation with the minister that there were truly three classes of people in the endtime move of God. Which class do you belong to? Which class do I belong to? You and I have to be in one of the three classes. We can't run away from any of them. Think about it.
Brother A_____ stays in the Message PERIOD. Like all believers in this group, he stays still with all that the prophet had taught in all his sermons/messages. They would not dare to go forth and receive further LIGHT. They would go neither forward nor backward! They are contented! They do not believe in any further revelation of the Word of God by His Spirit. Most of these believers contend that ALL MYSTERIES of the Bible have been revealed by the prophet in his messages; therefore there could not be any further revelation. A particular verse they would quote in their contention is Revelation 10:7. They are ignorant of the fact that Revelation 10:7 is not about ALL MYSTERIES, but about THE MYSTERY of God. (Read Ephesians 3:1-11.) Many would not dare to teach or say anything that the prophet had not touched on. There are many subjects of the Bible that Brother Branham only superficially mentioned in his messages. Subjects such as 'The Battle' recorded in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, 'Christ's Millennial Reign', 'Seven Trumpets and Seven Vials', 'New Heaven and New Earth', 'Prehistoric World', 'Trail of the Serpent', 'Mark of Cain', to name but a few, are not much studied or taught by this class of people. They would not even want to go to the WORD to settle for themselves regarding the number of years God will deal with the Jews after the translation of the Bride. (They just simply quoted Brother Branham and said it's three-and-half years.)
This Message PERIOD group is like those children of Israel who walked out of the organized system and bondage of Egypt under Moses. They refused further leadership of the Joshuaic ministry and, so like the Israelites, they were left to their own wandering. (Read Jude 5.) If the Israelites had accepted Moses' Message PLUS the leadership of Joshua, things would have been different.
MESSAGE PLUS…
Brother Branham brought us a Message. I believe in it. The Message is given to call out God's elect from the various religious systems of this world into His Glorious Word to be prepared as a Bride-Wife for His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. I believe in this Message PLUS the progressive revelation of His Light which He will show us from day to day and each step of the way. Blessed be the Name of the Lord! I believe in all that the prophet had taught ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES. He came with a Message and just like Moses', it produced an exodus of mixed multitude of 'believers'. But the 5-Fold Ministry (God's Ascension Gifts) will perfect the true chosen ones just like Joshua did in leading the children of Israel over the river Jordan (which speaks of turmoil and confusion) into the Promised REST OF GOD.
William Branham, like Moses, was an Evening Time Messenger with an Evening Time Message to deliver God's people from bondage. Read Exodus 12:29,42. There were no soldiers, no war; merely a walking out when the fetters were loosened. However, under the leadership of Joshua, the people became soldiers. They fought for the PROMISE of God — Canaan Land. The victorious battles were all done in the daylight of the SUN. Read Joshua 3; 6:15; 10. The true 5-Fold Ministry is the Joshua of today's Church. This ministry rallies the saints together to put on the full armour of God, to grow up mature and perfect in Christ Jesus, and to go forth steadily to claim the PROMISE of His Reward. Once in the Land of Promise, Joshua divided the Land for the people. Similarly, the "Joshua" of the Church, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit in the Apostles, rightly divides the Word of Promise for the believers.
The Message MINUS group is not much different from the Message PERIOD one. The main difference is that they believe every word spoken by the prophet to be 'THUS SAITH THE LORD'. They stick to his every word like leeches do to blood. They would demand “Give me a QUOTE, give me a QUOTE! Show me where the prophet said it. If you can't show me where Brother Branham said it, I will not believe.” If you show them the Written Word, they'll turn it down and say “Show me 'The Spoken Word'.” Oh my, they have truly forsaken THE ABSOLUTE (Sacred Scriptures) of God! They have become bookworms and tapeworms and are holding on to them ('The Spoken Word' books and taped sermons) as their CREEDS! In plain language, they believe the Message MINUS the INSPIRED WRITTEN WORD OF GOD!
When a Christian permits himself to gaze through the distorted crystal glass of the Babylonish church tradition, which nourishes the spirit of the Antichrist in its unholy place, nothing will ever make for wisdom, and the sacred mysteries of God will seem meaningless and empty. And you, 'Message believers', claiming to be enlightened and separated from that unholy thing, yet walk as drunkards, stumbling as in the night, are no different. Mark this statement well, take heed: no man can enter into the wisdom of God while he remains in the harlot system or forsakes the Sacred Scriptures of His Maker.
STRANGE REVELATIONS
When God's people forsake or lose their FAITH in the Inspired Written Word, they will give heed to seducing spirits and the teachings of devils (1Tim.4:1). One particular incident of strange revelation I have encountered in the early years of my ministry was from a short visit from two New Zealanders. In a short and brief discussion, I was told that I should grow a beard; the reason given me was that all men of God in the Old Testament time wore beard. When pressed for the Scriptures, I was told that I needed to seek God for a revelation regarding it as there was no written Scripture for that particular truth. Truly, there may not be a specific or direct Scripture for a true revelation, but there must be a consistency and continuity in Biblical Revelation applicable to our Christian life. For example, there is no Scripture to say that a Christian cannot smoke tobacco. Yet, Biblical revelation speaks against it because smoking tobacco can destroy our body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit as written in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. Again, some Christians may rebut and say, “If smoking leaves (tobacco) is a sin, then drinking leaves (tea) is also a sin.”
Then there was a popular teaching which I knew in the early 1980s. The teaching was that Rapturing Faith could be obtained by listening to the sermon tapes of the prophet and reading 'The Spoken Word' books. Those who believed in it aggressively propagated and strongly testified of it as a “Thus Saith The Lord”. If that is so, I wonder how many sermons I ought to hear or read in order to obtain Rapturing Faith. Is it all of them? And what about those who do not have as many or even a copy or two of the prophet's messages? Then again, what about those who do not understand the American language? Seemingly they will not be able to obtain that Rapturing Faith.
Oh, saints of God, does not THE WORD of God (in Romans 10:17) ring out, “FAITH cometh by hearing, and hearing by the WORD OF GOD”? Does IT not also say to all believers in each Church Age (Rev.2:7,11,17,29; 3:6,13,22): “He that hath an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches”? Yet, many believers are not hearing what the Spirit is saying unto the churches. Because in “hearing, they hear not, neither do they understand” (Matt.13:13). One who truly hears and understands what the Spirit is saying concerning the TRUTH is one who can have the true revelation of THE ORIGINAL WORD. And true revelation of THE WORD is ABSOLUTE FAITH.
Where the WRITTEN WORD of God is not recognised and accepted as THE ABSOLUTE, devilish doctrines would prevail because true revelation does not exist without THE WORD of God. After the death of Brother Branham (in 1965), a stream of false revelations has been proclaimed around the world. One of such devilish doctrines is the doing away with the Lord's Supper (or Communion). The so-called revelation behind this teaching is that the "Lord has come" and that the saints are now in "communion" with Him. Therefore, the false teachers surmise that there is no need to observe the Bread and Wine at the Communion Table. Along with this doctrine, these Branhamites also believe that the Rapture has already taken place and that they are now living in the Millennial Age.
Saints, the Return of the Lord Jesus Christ to judge His enemies and to reign as the Lord over all in the Millennial Age is, undoubtedly, a literal event. Unfortunately, many Branhamites have chosen to spiritualise this event. But how do one spiritualise a lamb lying down beside a lion? (cf. Isa.11:6; 65:25)
It is a fact that the spiritual Word has come to prepare the Bride, but the physical Return of the Lord Jesus Christ to take His Bride in the Rapture will become a reality in due course.
Do you understand now, why all these differences, errors and confusions prevail?
Paul said that the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Heb.4:12), and that it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2Tim.3:16-17). If a saint of God refuses to heed the INSPIRED WRITTEN WORD OF GOD which is quick, powerful and sharp, how could any other word be profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction? Then, he cannot be perfected nor furnished unto good works. Thus, to reject the WORD is to reject the Spirit of Truth.
The Word of God shows that Ephesians 4:11 cannot be doing what it is sent to do (Eph.4:12-16) until Malachi 4:5-6 has come first. Now that the saints have come back to THE WORD (remember: Brother Branham's ministry was to turn us, the children of God, to our Apostolic Fathers' Faith), the perfecting can now take place under the 5-Fold Ministry.
According to Brother Branham, the Bride has a ministry: that's none other than the 5-Fold Ministry, and it is so humble. Yes, it's so humble that many will miss it.
THE TRUTH OF GOD PRODUCES GENUINE LOVE
Jesus said, “Ye shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free” (Jhn.8:32). “Sanctify them through thy Truth: thy Word is Truth” (Jhn.17:17). “Search the Scriptures;…” (Jhn.5:39). “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life” (Jhn.6:63).
The Sacred Scriptures are the INSPIRED WRITTEN WORD of God. They are the TRUTH that set man free if he will hearken unto them. They give LIFE eternal because they come by the SPIRIT of God. John wrote that the SPIRIT of God is TRUTH (1Jhn.5:6). If the WORD is GOD (Jhn.1:1) and the WORD is TRUTH (Jhn.17:17) and that GOD (SPIRIT) is TRUTH (1Jhn.5:6), then the SPIRIT and the WORD are ONE — TRUTH. Love, righteousness, mercy, goodness, and all other attributes of God flow from this TRUTH.
LOVE proceeds forth from the SPIRIT, WORD or TRUTH. LOVE proceeds from God, and not God from LOVE. TRUTH produces LOVE, and not LOVE produces TRUTH.
Today, many believers would, in defence, quote a statement made by Brother Branham when they cannot square up to the Truth (right doctrine): “I'll rather have the right spirit than the right doctrine.” Those who quote this statement certainly do not know what the prophet meant when he said that.
Don't they know that the SPIRIT and the TRUTH (WORD) are one? Obviously, they do not. If they do they would have known that the Spirit of God in a believer could not do otherwise but lead him into ALL Truth (Jhn.14:26). I believe they are trying to imply that they would rather have all Love than all Truth. They would quote what the prophet-messenger said about the Divine Love, the Capstone, that would bring about the Rapture and so forth.
If LOVE (without Divine TRUTH) is what will bring about the Rapture then this so-called 'LOVE' movement among the various denominational churches coming under the World Council of Churches would definitely suffice. They are gathering under the banner of 'The Fatherhood of God and The Brotherhood of Men'. That is, “Let's love one another. It doesn't matter whether you are a Baptist, a Methodist, a Presbyterian, a Charismatic, or whatever; let's just put away our differences and love one another just as Jesus said. We have the same Father, and we are all brethren of the same God.” THINK. Is that the LOVE that God talks about in His Word?
WHAT IS LOVE?
What is genuine LOVE? John the beloved of the Lord can tell you what true love is. You will see how much he talked about it in his first epistle. He said “whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him [i.e. Christ the Word] ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked” in the love of God (cf. 1Jhn.2:5-6). See? When a believer has the Word (Truth) and keeps It, the Love of God is perfected in him as he walks the way Christ walked.
LOVE is of God; it proceeds from TRUTH. Therefore only the TRUTH of God can produce a genuine LOVE of God. And no other love, no matter how genuine, can produce the real TRUTH.
Let me show you a type from the Scriptures.
The call of Abram showed the need for total separation from earthly ties before a great blessing could take place. Likewise the chosen ones of God must be separated from the religious systems of the world before the blessed hope can appear.
When Abraham grew old and the time came for his son Isaac to get a wife, he called for his servant, Eliezer (Gen.24:1-9). He gave him specific instruction and made him promise under an oath that he must not take a wife of the Canaanites for Isaac. Instead, he was to go to Abraham's country and kindred to seek out one. Now, notice the command of Abraham when Eliezer mentioned the need to take Isaac to his (Abraham's) former homeland if he could not get the woman to follow him back.
Abraham said: “Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.” Back there in Chaldee was much superstition, idolatry and traditions. TRUTH does not look back, neither does it go back to where it came from.
Isaac was the physical Promised Seed unto Abraham. Isaac was a type of the Incorruptible Seed Word of God. He was the TRUTH that could not go back. He was the Seed that Abraham believed in, to bring forth fruits (his descendants).
There was a total separation in the first place. That brought forth TRUTH, and TRUTH was going to bring forth LOVE.
Eliezer did as his master commanded. He set out with his camels and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
We know the story how God dealt with his faith; how that at the evening time, at a well, Rebekah came. Rebekah was a kindred to Abraham. She was the grand-daughter of Nahor, Abraham's brother. Bethuel, her father, and Laban, her brother, gave their approval when they heard how God had prospered Eliezer's way. They ate and drank and rejoiced that night. When the morning came and Eliezer had to leave, Laban and her mother persuaded him to stay a few more days. Eliezer pleaded with them not to hinder him. They called Rebekah, and asked her, “Wilt thou go with this man?” Immediately she answered, “I will go.”
Rebekah had never seen the man whom she had consented to marry. But she certainly had the revelation of what her husband was like after hearing the testimony of his father's servant. That produced a LOVE which made her want to be Isaac's wife.
LOVE FOLLOWS TRUTH
Now, is not that a type of the Bride of Christ? She had not seen Christ, her Bridegroom, yet her faith in the Father's word through His servant Eliezer today, has given her a special revelation to want to be intimate with Him. God's Eliezer of today brought to His Bride the evening time TRUTH that stirred her heart. She is greatly overwhelmed with LOVE for the One Whom she has been espoused to in marriage. She'll go and be what He wants her to be. That's right. Paul taught that. The woman follows the man; she is subjected unto the man. LOVE follows TRUTH, because TRUTH produces LOVE to begin with.
Abraham forbade his servant to take Isaac (Truth) to his former homeland to seek a wife (Love). The Message of Truth (through a messenger) will produce Love in itself and will cause Love to follow. Amen.
Today, we see believers (having Truth) going back into their former Church-land to seek out Love. (A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways – James 1:8). They could not wait for God to provide them a wife, so Truth goes in search of Love without a Message. And what usually happens in such cases is that when Love walks out the door, Truth will follow suit.
Yes, saints of God, if there is genuine Truth in your keeping, you would stay in the call for total separation. The Truth in you would produce a genuine Love. It would come to you. You need not go after it. To do so will only cause you to step out of Truth and to follow a Love that is not of God. (A woman who leads a man has a wrong spirit in her. She has no true love. A man who follows after a woman has no truth in him. He has no true [Word-based] revelation.)
It was evening time when Eliezer and Rebekah were almost home. Isaac, who was out in the field meditating, came to meet them in the way. When she was told by Eliezer that the man was Isaac, Rebekah immediately veiled herself and jumped off the camel.
O what a beautiful type! The Bride veiled herself. What with? The WORD! The TRUTH! That which she received when she heard the messenger's words! Praise the Lord! (That's right, a woman must have the revelation of Truth and be clothed by It before she can ever say she loves the man. Or else she is just a tack-a-long, a make-believer. Amen!) Immediately “...when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel” (Gen.24:64). Certainly! The camel train had served its purpose to ferry her to the one she loved. Amen.
“And Isaac brought her into…” (Gen.24:67). O, what intimacy! And TRUTH brought LOVE into…UNION together! Amen! But where was Eliezer and the camel train? Certainly not in the CHUPPAH; for in there was Rebekah alone hearkening to “the voice of her beloved” Isaac. Truth and Love, Christ and Bride, in a holy union ― alone.
GODLY LOVE TENDS TO THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH
Now, I would like to relate an incident which took place a long time ago. In fact, such incident happens very often among God's people today. I want you to apply your own Scriptural understanding to the behaviours of these two Christians.
Brother S.P., a minister, had played the hypocrite which caused dissimulation among believers in a certain place. He, along with some of his associates, had acted so insincerely that even Brother B., an associate minister of Brother S.T., was carried away by their hypocrisy. When Brother S.T. came to realise the problem and its cause, he sought out Brother S.P. and gave him a scathing rebuke before everyone present. And sometime later, Brother S.T. wrote a letter to Christians in a certain region stating plainly that Brother S.P. was to blame for causing dissimulation among the believers by his hypocrisy. This letter was also read by many Christians in many other areas.
Now, the question is: Had Brother S.T. done rightly in rebuking Brother S.P. in the face and then writing and circulating that letter among the believers?
Off hand, many children of God may feel that Brother S.T. had no love for Brother S.P. by writing that letter and releasing it to the believers. Many feel that Brother S.T. should have forgiven Brother S.P. by covering up his wrongdoings instead of putting him to shame. Some people teach that what Brother S.T. had done should not be done among the Endtime believers.
What is your conclusion based on your own understanding in the light of the Word of Truth?
Whatever it is, I would like you to read the Book of Galatians chapter 2 regarding that 'letter' of Brother Saul of Tarsus (Paul) to the believers in Galatia concerning Brother Simon Peter's hypocrisy.
Many of us have already been tested and others are being tested by the forceful teachings and threats of certain characters who claim to be followers of the prophet's message. It is one thing when it comes to fellowship but another when Truth is made known and these characters will just get mad and run off, or they will try to take over the church. If they cannot do that, they will try to tear it all to pieces.
CHARACTERS
Peter was not like these characters. He was just caught up in the spirit of playing the hypocrite and Paul blamed him for the dissimulation that he had caused. Peter realised his fault and repented. But it is not so with some of these present day characters and ministers who claim they follow the Message. They lie, they cheat, they destroy. They will do anything to seek attention and to prove they are somebody. I know quite a few of these characters. There is no way to stop them, and no use trying. When they refuse to hear the Truth and have no Love at all for the Truth, Paul said that God Himself will send strong delusion upon them that they should believe a lie.
Why are these people doing the things they do? It is simply because they are controlled by a spirit other than the Holy Spirit. The spirit of jealousy often gets upon these people, ushering in other spirits as well. Spirit of covetousness, spirit of pride, lying spirit, are some of them. These characters (mostly Caucasians) think they are the only true believers and ministers. If they continue as they are, they will certainly fall into a strong delusion to believe that lie, so much so that they will not be able to see that 'humble' ministry of God.
If Peter were to do the same thing today, many ministers would be too weak-knee to do what Paul did. They would probably say, “Well, forgive Peter. He'll soon come to his senses.” But the dissimulation will continue and get worse!
Did not Jesus and Paul commanded us to openly rebuke those that sinned? Read Luke 17:3; 1 Timothy 5:20, and Titus 1:13; 2:15. Even an apostle of God must be rebuked. Is it hard for us to think of Peter, a true apostle at heart and a man of great principles, being deceived that his action belied his testimony?
In his head-on conflict with Peter, Paul refused to become unfaithful to Christ by yielding to fear of splitting the church. Apostle or not, the principles apply. And what Paul did was straight forward. Find the cause and the reason for the dissimulation (or whatever may be the problem), lay down the Word of Truth, and call the situation to a halt. The rest is up to Peter. The 'ball' is in his court, so to speak.
ROUSE YOURSELVES! WAKE UP!
Wake up, servants of the Lord! You have a responsibility! If the 'troublemaker' is a true 'Peter', he will listen and repent. If he is not, then he may just be a goat that will keep butting (“but this, but that”) every time you take him to the Word of Truth. That's right, sheep does not “but”, goat does; and he will give you nothing but lots of hurt until you take him by the horns and yank him out of the sheepfold. And close the door on him! When he bleats later on, don't you let him in either because he will still be a goat. Like a leopard, he will never change his 'spots'.
Some may snarl and complain that you have no love. These are the ones who do not really understand true LOVE. As I have mentioned before, Truth in a believer will produce genuine Love. TRUTH is alive and not sickly. It produces LOVE that meets the needs of God's people, and not to the needs of the children of the wicked ones.
Did not Jesus say, “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matt.7:21)? Did not the prophet say that there were three kinds of believers — the true believers, the unbelievers and the make-believers? Then let's speak the Truth in Love that we may grow up in Christ in all things. We are no more children (immature) who could be tossed to and fro, and be carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight and cunning craftiness of men in their deceitful scheme. Let us take the full revelation of the WORD of TRUTH which is sharper than any two-edged sword and check up our faith with It. It is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2Tim.3:16-17).
As we take the Word, let's do the will of the Father by tending and feeding the sheep of the Lord, declaring all the counsel of God, for the grievous wolves lurking around would not spare the flock. That's right, posing as believers, these wolves in sheep's clothing will speak perverse things to lure disciples into following them.
Remember: the spirit that lured Eve from the Word is still upon this earth. And he is always scheming and plotting to deceive.
The true revelation of God is Jesus Christ the Word. The WORD is TRUTH. He brought forth LOVE, and Calvary proved it. Amen! The REVELATION of TRUTH is LOVE; Love in the Word of God.

Question 1: Since Christians are under Grace, why must they “tithe”? Tithing is definitely not for the Christians. If Christians practise that, are they not under the Law?
Answer: In the Bible, a “tithe” means a “tenth part” or ten per cent of produce, income, or profit that is given to the Lord. True, Christians are under Grace (New Testament) and not under the Law (Old Testament). Unlike the Jews in the Old Testament time, Christians are not required to pay tithes. There are preachers who preach against tithing giving the reason that the early Apostles did not teach it. These preachers teach that Christians need only give offerings of whatever amount they like. Apparently, they are doing this to counter the covetous motive of some preachers who, for their own personal gain, go to great lengths to induce Christians to give generously of their tithes and offerings.
But what is the difference between offerings and tithings? Should believers under Grace give an offering that is less than a tenth part of their income or earnings? If believers, being the spiritual seeds of Abraham, claim that they live in the Grace of God but neglect tithing, are they not a disgrace to their Father Abraham and his Faith. Did not Abraham willingly give the TENTH PART of all that he had to Melchisedek, the Priest of the Most High God? Read Genesis 14:18-20 and Hebrews 7:1-2. Amen. Abraham gave an offering of tithes of all that he had! It was an OFFERING! And it was also the TITHES of all he had! He was not ordered by Melchisedek to pay tithes; he willingly gave of his tithes. There was no law that compelled him to do so. Law came some four hundred years later at Mount Sinai. Abraham lived in the Grace of God.
If Abraham gave an offering of a tenth part of all that he had, should not we as Christians also give offerings of tithes of all that we have? We do not have nor need the law to tell us to pay or to give an offering to God. We are in the liberty of the Spirit of Christ. All we need to do is to follow the example of our forefather, Abraham. Therefore, an offering should not be any less than a tithe — a tenth part of our income or earnings. In fact, it ought to be more than just tithing; it should be the offering of a tenth part! God loves a cheerful giver. There should be a sacrifice of praise, of thanksgiving and of joy in giving! Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
Question 2: How could the Church today use musical instruments in worship when we do not read anywhere in the New Testament books that the Early Church practised so? Is it not true that the Temple in the Old Testament time was a place for solemn assembly and the Jews did not dance and shout in there? The use of musical instrument(s) in singing is believed to produce fleshly or carnal feelings in one's mind. Is that not the reason for Rock Gospel music and unholy behaviours existing in many of the churches today?
Answer: It is obvious why the Bible does not contain specific details of everything that God wants His people to know. If every detail of everything is to be specifically documented in a book, even the sky would not be able to contain them. However, everything that God wants His people to understand is contained in the Inspired Scriptures which are precisely worded by the Holy Spirit. It is for this reason alone that God has to ordain and anoint servants to reveal His Word. Of course, not all who claim to be God's servants are truly His servants. Even those who claim to have been commissioned by an audible voice from Heaven (and perhaps still claim to hear the same audible voice) are not necessarily men of God. There are many such men in the organized churches and there are some who claim that they believe and follow the Message of the Hour but their understandings of the Word are diametrically opposed to the Truth.
Just because the Apostles did not give any instruction about the use of musical instruments in their epistles and because there is no mention of the Church having used them, one cannot simply conclude that the early saints never did use them in their worship services. If such interpretation is allowed to prevail, then we might as well say that no pulpit should be used in Church because it was not mentioned at all by the Apostles. And since the Early Church gathered in houses, Christian meetings should not be held in a church building. Furthermore, water baptism should not be carried out anywhere else (such as a swimming pool or tub) except in a river. Evidently, such interpretations have led some theologians to say that it is alright to smoke tobacco because none of the early Apostles had spoken against such a habit in the Scriptures.
That the Early Church did use musical instruments in worship cannot be denied. First, we know they were mentioned metaphorically in Paul's epistle to the Corinthians (1Cor.13:1 and 14:7-8). For him to make such comments in his teachings Paul must have been well acquainted with those musical instruments, don't you think so? Second, the Jews, through whom came the Oracles of God, were well acquainted with musical instruments in their worship of God. The Jews sang, danced, shouted and played musical instruments not only during festivities but also during worships. Of course, the common people were not allowed into the Temple; only the Priests were allowed into the Holy Place and the High Priest into the Most Holy Place. Do you know that Aaron the High Priest had a few of a certain type of musical instrument attached to the lower hem of his robe? They were musical bells. “A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about. And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not” (Exod.28:34-35).
It is not true that the gathering of the Jews in worship was always solemn. The Bible even teaches us that there is a time for everything (Eccle.3:1-8). From the statistics recorded in Chronicles you will note that 4,000 of the 38,000 Levites chosen by David for Temple service were musicians. These were “to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy” (1 Chron.15:16; 23:5). In 1 Chronicles 25:6-7, the number of musicians is listed at 288, divided into 24 categories of 12 each. Read what the Bible described concerning the musical activities that occurred as recorded:
“And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.” — 2 Chron.5:11-14Praise the Lord! What a day of worship! What a worship! The Jews were praising God with different musical instruments! What a presence of the glory of God!
The musical instruments used in the Jewish worship were not uncommon in the Jewish homes. Would not converted Christian Jews use them when they gathered for worship in the homes? God Himself is the originator of music and musical instruments and He is the One Who ordained worship to be rendered unto Him in songs and musical instruments in the Old Testament time. Would He turn around and forbid the use of musical instruments in the New Testament time? I don't think so. God never changes. He could not proclaim through His Psalmists (in Psalm 150:1-6) one moment to…
“Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD”…and the next to do away with musical instruments, dancing and shouting.
The Devil will imitate and corrupt everything that God does. He may use musical instruments to create sensual music. He has pagans sing and dance sensuously even without the use of music as they worship their idols. Just because many churches have gone the way of the world and permitted Rock Music in their worship with all sorts of carrying-on does not mean that the True Church have to throw all musical instruments out of their worship. Do we throw away the Bible because the organized churches have corrupted It with their creeds and dogmas? Of course, not. Let us not strain at the gnat and swallow a camel.
Beloved, take heed what you hear and how you hear, for many false anointed ones are out there in the world. Seducing spirits have taught some preachers to forbid marrying and eating of meat (cf. 1Tim.4:3), so it would not be strange to know that other seduced preachers would also forbid certain things just because it appears to them, “the things are corrupt”. “To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.
